Balasore: The RPF crime branch Kharagpur Tuesday initiated a probe into the alleged theft of oil from a railway wagon at Bahanagar bazaar railway station here in this district which occurred Saturday night.
The probing team also recovered some stolen diesel from Ichapur village during the raid.
Headed by Inspector Suresh Kumar, the team examined the spot from where diesel was siphoned from the wagon by the miscreants. They found broken seals and opened bolts at the place.
Sniffer dogs were engaged to lead the RPF team. Last night the raiding team seized around 60 liters of diesel from a house and today raids were still being conducted, informed Kumar.
“After getting informed that diesel was stolen from the rail wagon by the miscreants, a probe was conducted and it was revealed that the seal of two wagons were broken and the bolts were loosened. But we are yet to ascertain the quantity of fuel pilferage” said Kumar adding that no arrest was made.
“With the help of a dog squad, we have recovered nearly 40 to 50 litres oil which was stolen from the oil and a probe is on,” Kumar added.
Sources said, a train with 50 wagon of fuel from Paradip was heading for Somnathpur depot when the requirement for an engine emerged Saturdya night. Near Bahanaga railway station the engine of the train was taken away to meet the requirement of another train.
The wagons meanwhile were placed in a loop line. Finding the wagons stationary, the miscreants siphoned diesel from them.
