London: Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez were on target for Arsenal as the Gunners eked out a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium here, Saturday. The victory is their 11th straight Premier League win at home and first over arch rivals Spurs in seven meetings.
In other matches, table toppers Manchester City rode on the strikes from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin de Bruyne to beat Leicester City 2-0. At Anfield, Mohamed Salah struck twice and Coutinho once to hand Liverpool a 3-0 win over Southampton. Chelsea meanwhile, thrashed West Bromwich Albion 4-0 with Eden Hazard scoring a brace and, Alvaro Morata and Marcos Alonso scoring apiece.
At the Emirates Stadium, hosts started on a better note. The attacking intent paid off for the Gunners. Following a questionable decision for an alleged foul by Davinson Sanchez on Alexis Sanchez, Ozil floated the resultant free-kick into the box and Shkodran Mustafi found the top corner with a brilliant guided header.
Soon it was 2-0 for Arsenal. Alexandre Lacazette was fed on the right by Bellerin and he provided a perfect cut-back for Sanchez, who made a mess with his first touch, but regained control with his second and lofted the ball into net from a tight angle.
Tottenham were more urgent after the break but were unable to fashion clear-cut opportunities. Any hope of a way back into the match for Tottenham seemed to disappear when manager Mauricio Pochettino took off Kane and Dele Alli, both of whom were returning from injuries.
