Bhubaneswar: Most of the Orissa teams performed well to advance to the next round of their respective events on the second day of the National University Games at the KIIT University premises here Monday.
In lawn tennis, KIIT University defeated Durg University 2-0 to qualify for the semifinals. With this victory KIIT also became one of the teams from east zone to qualify for the All India Inter-Zone Inter-University tournament in December.
In badminton KIIT University, Utkal University, Sambalpur University and Ravenshaw University from the state entered the pre-quarterfinals after winning their respective matches. Among other outstation teams, North Eastern Hill University, PVS Purbanchal , LN Mithla, Magadh , Jadavpur University, TM Bhagalpur and Pandit Ravi Sankar University also made it to the round of sixteen.
KIIT thrashed Kolhan University 3-0, while Utkal spanked AKS University by an identical margin 3-0. Sambalpur scripted a convincing 3-0 win over Tripura University and Ravenshaw triumphed over Central University 3-1.
In women’s badminton, Sambalpur University and Ravenshaw University entered the pre-quarterfinal rounds.
