Malkangiri: Heavy showers triggered by low pressure Friday has thrown life out of gear while a flood situation was created in several rivers and canals of this district.
Plying of vehicles has been severely hit in many areas leaving the commuters stranded, according to reports.
Communication between the district headquarters and Balimela and Chitrakonda and Andhra Pradesh was disrupted as floodwater was flowing at a height of four feet on a bridge across river Korukonda.
Similarly, road connection remained cut-off between the district headquarters town and Sukma and Jagadalpur of neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
Flow of floodwater on a bridge across the distributaries of river Saberi has affected vehicular movements at Chalanguda, it was learnt.
Attendance in all the schools remained thin as the low pressure-induced rain started lashing the entire district from early morning. Most of the commercial establishments of the district preferred to down their shutters during the day.
All measures have been taken by the district administration to face imminent flood situation, district emergency officer Tapan Nayak said.
Meanwhile, there was slight improvement in the situation after rainfall decreased in some areas in the afternoon, it was learnt. PNN
