Bhubaneswar, June 20:Satyapira Padhan of Bhawanipatna is often dubbed as the city’s golden boy of martial arts. He has a knack for making records. And, this time he has indeed created history. He has apparently made an entry into the Guiness Book of World Records for the highest number of full contact punches in a minute. It is being claimed that he has defeated Pakistan’s Mohammmed Rashid. He punched 393 times in one minute on Hi-Tech Medical
College campus Tuesday. A physiotherapy student at HiTech Medical College, Padhan has apparently broken Rashid’s previous record of 377 punches. Guinness committee approved two observers to judge Padhan. The observers took the final decision. “I had set the aim of breaking the record six months back. The previous record was of 377 punches in one minute. I attempted to challenge the earlier record holder today, only after consulting my martial art coach Sudhir Chandra,” he said. Padhan thanked his parents, coaches and teachers for their kind support. He attempted thrice Tuesday to break the record. It was only in the third attempt that he achieved success. “I was confident from the beginning. I was confident that I will break the record,” he added. This is Padhan’s first world record attempt. He wished to make record for double hand punch strikes as well. Besides, a well-trained martial art practitioner, he is also a mountaineer. As a mountaineer, he had scaled Mt Indrasani in Uttarakhand in 2016.
