Chennai: V.K Sasikala, close aide of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa formally took over as the general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Saturday. Sasikala became the second woman leader to lead the party after Jayalalithaa.
The AIADMK general council Thursday appointed Sasikala as the general secretary of the party. She will be the interim general secretary of the party until she is formally elected to the post.
Sasikala who arrived at the party headquarters at 12.12 p.m garlanded the statue of MGR even as a few women cadres raised the slogan ‘‘Puratchi Thalaivi Vaazhga’’ (Jayalalithaa). A few seconds later they chanted ‘‘chinnamma Vaazhga’’ referring to Sasikala. PNN
