New Delhi: The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar conferred the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2017–18 on Delhi Public School Paradip Refinery, Jagatsinghpur, during a function at Dr Ambedkar International Centre here Tuesday.
The evaluation committee has given the DPS Paradip Refinery 92 per cent.
The HRD Ministry has awarded 52 schools, of which 37 are from rural areas and 15 from urban areas. Category-wise, 45 are government/government-aided schools; 7 private schools; 24 elementary and 28 secondary/higher secondary schools.
According to the ministry, the awarded schools are being given Certificate of Recognition along with an additional school grant of Rs 50,000 through digital payment.
While speaking on the occasion, Javadekar said, “The Swachhta activities in schools will bring out a positive behavioural change in the society. The students are ‘cleanliness ambassadors’ and they will lead the vision of Clean India of our Prime Minister through awareness and sensitization programmes.”
He also informed that this edition of the award saw a phenomenal participation with 615,152 schools registering for the awards. Last year, 2.68 lakh schools vied for the awards.
Notably, this Puraskar was launched as a follow up to the Swachh Vidyalaya Initiative launched in 2014 by the HRD Ministry.
The Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar honours the schools that have done exemplary work in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene.
