Kalyansinghpur: Thousands of tribals from five panchayats under Kalyansinghpur block in Rayagada were left in the lurch after a temporary bridge over the Kalyani river was washed away by floods following heavy rain since Saturday.
With no other source of communication, the region has been cut off from the rest of the world. Now, the local people have to trek extra kilometres to reach the block for their daily chores.
With no help coming from the local administration, the local people had set up a temporary bridge after the main bridge was washed away by incessant rains last year.
With the temporary bridge also washed away, the worst sufferers are patients, women and schoolchildren.
An expectant mother, Puspalata Kaushalya, and her family members are worried over the prospect of reaching a hospital in an emergency situation.
Moreover, farmers, including women, who want to sell their farm produce have to cross the river with the help of a bamboo raft.
