1 critical as fire breaks out in Bolangir fruit market; properties worth over Rs 5 lakh gutted

Bolangir: In a major fire mishap late Thursday night, one shopkeeper sustained severe burn injuries and properties worth over Rs 5 lakh was charred at a local fruit market in Bolangir town in this district.

The untoward incident occurred near the government bus stand.

According to an eye-witness, at least eight fruit shops were completely charred in the fire mishap. The fire might have broke out owing to an electrical short-circuit, the eye-witness added.

On being informed, a fire-fighting team immediately rushed to the spot and doused the flames. However, the exact cause behind the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained.

The critically injured shopkeeper Kunu Dalei was rescued by the fire personnel and admitted to Santha Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir town for treatment.

Local police have initiated a probe in this connection.
