Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday inaugurated 100 urban piped drinking water supply projects. With the objective of provide safe drinking water to every house in Orissa, he also laid the foundation stone for another 100 projects though a video conference at the state secretariat here.
Two systems – Online Smart Water Information Management (OSWIM) and e-Building Pass – were also launched at the function. While OSWIM will ensure safety of drinking water being supplied, the second system will smoothen the permission process for construction of buildings.
“The state government is working with a commitment towards improving urban governance in the state. While 100 urban drinking water projects were dedicated today, work on another 100 has started,” officials said.
While the projects dedicated Thursday will cater to the needs of around 2lakh people, the 100 proposed schemes will ensure safe water for lakhs of people in urban areas in the coming days, officials said.
Patnaik stated that the two services were launched to bring more accountability and efficiency in urban water management.
Urban Development Minister Pushpendu Singhdeo said the OSWIM system will provide information on various aspects like the quality of water and collection of water tax.
“The e-Building Pass system will simplify the building approval process. The time limit for getting various NOCs has been fixed. With this, people can easily get their building plan approval through online,” the minister added.
