Bhubaneswar: The Centre is yet to sanction 1,038 road and bridge projects that were proposed by the state government under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), rural development minister BK Arukh told the Assembly Tuesday.
Replying to a query of BJP legislator Dillip Ray, Arukh said as many as 1,023 roads and 15 bridge projects proposed by the state government for sanction during the current financial year, are pending with the Centre. The total length of these projects is 3,219 km.
Out of total pending bridge projects, 12 were proposed to be constructed in Sundargarh while one each was proposed for Bolangir, Kandhamal and Soenpur districts, the minister said.
The Centre has approved 446 bridges and roads having a length of 56,826 km between 2000-01 and October this year. Out of this, 213 bridge projects and 42,058 km length of road have been constructed, Arukh said.
The minister further stated that the state government and the Centre have released Rs 18,544 crore under the scheme till October, out of which Rs 18,143 crore has been utilised.
Similarly, the state government is yet to complete 233 bridges having a total length of 14,768 km sanctioned under the Central scheme so far, he said.
The highest 41 sanctioned PMGSY bridge project are pending in Sundargarh followed by Kalahandi (34), Kandhamal (20), Koraput (18), Malkangiri & Mayurbhanj (12), Rayagada (11), Jajpur (9), Bolangir (8), Keonjhar (7), Nayagarh and Puri (6 each), Bhadrak, Cuttack and Kendrapara (5 each). The remaining are pending in other districts (excluding Dhenkanal).
