108 ambulance hits trolley rickshaw in Mayurbhanj, locals thrash staff

Badasahi: Tension erupted at Chauliashola on Udala-Baripada road near Badasahi in Mayurbhanj district when a 108 ambulance hit a trolley rickshaw at 2 am Wednesday.

Local residents held the ambulance staff responsible for the mishap and manhandled six persons including the driver, pharmacist and other employees following which all of them sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at Baripada hospital.

Reportedly, the 108 Employees’ Association has threatened to go on strike if there is no action against the accused persons.

According to reports, the ambulance with a patient from Udala was heading to Baripada when it collided with a trolley rickshaw near Chauliashola as the visibility was low due to dense fog.

When another ambulance from Baripada came to take the patient to hospital, some locals gathered and thrashed the staff of both ambulances severely.

The injured were identified as pharmacist Benudhar Mohanta, Manas Das, driver Prasant Patra, Manoj Behera, attendant Sagar Muduli and Laxman Nath.

Scared over the public outrage, they ran away for their life and informed police following which police reached the spot and admitted them to the hospital.

Badasahi police have registered a case and started an investigation.
