Berhampur: A team of 11 scientists from the Space Applications Centre (SAC) in Ahmadabad, a major centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), attended the Vikram Sarabhai space exhibition held at Berhampur ITI, a report said Friday. The exhibition, where various models related to space research were put on display, was inaugurated by Berhampur University ViceChancellor Geetanjali Dash. The team comprising scientists Anup Dash, Chakrapani Pattnaik, Akshaya Sahu, NJ Bhat, Paresh Sarnia, four technicians, and others visited the ITI and witnessed models on remote sensing, talking to scientists with the help of communication satellites, Chandrayan model in mobile bus, orbiter mission to the moon and a video documentary on orbiter mission.
Students of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Berhampur and over 15,000 students of various schools, ITIs, and various polytechnics in the Ganjam district also participated in the event and witnessed the models displayed in the space exhibition. The visiting scientists appreciated the sculpture on the ITI premises built from scraps. When contacted, ITI Principal Rajat Kumar Panigrahi said that visit of the scientists will encourage the students to do something better and plans are afoot to provide placements to over 40 students of Berhampur ITI in ISRO in the coming days.
