Chennai: In a bone-chilling incident, an 11-year-old girl, with hearing disorder, was allegedly raped by at least 22 men including security persons, plumber, electrician and carpenter of apartment complex for more than seven months in Chennai.
The girl, a Class VII student, was allegedly sedated with injections, spiked with drug-laced soft drinks. The police the perpetrators also blackmailed the victim.
The girl’s father was away at work through most of the day. Her mother, a homemaker, did not think anything was amiss when the girl came home later from school. She assumed that her daughter was playing with friends in the complex.
The heinous crime continued until the girl’s sister, a college student, studying in Delhi, returned home for holidays after which the girl narrated her ordeal.
After learning the whole incident, the girl brought it to the notice of their parents following which the girl’s parents approached the police and lodged a complaint. The girl was then admitted to a hospital.
Acting on the complaint, police have arrested 18 people. Further probe into the incident is on, a senior police officer said adding that the police also seized syringes, condoms and empty soft drink bottle from a room in the apartment and sent to the forensics laboratory for examination.
