Kendrapada: A 14.6-foot-long Burmese python was rescued from a residential area near the ecologically sensitive Batighar Reserved Forest in Kendrapada district after the giant reptile strayed into a villager’s backyard, forest officials said Wednesday.
The python was spotted slithering into the backyard of Madhan Samanta at Uttar Khola village, bordering the protected forest in Mahakalapada block, Tuesday night, triggering panic and curiosity among local residents.
Samanta promptly alerted the Forest Department.
Acting on the information, Mahakalapada Forest Ranger Santanu Kumar Dalai deployed a rescue team led by Batighar Forester Suresh Chandra Prusty.
With assistance from local residents, the team safely captured the non-venomous constrictor and subsequently released it into its natural habitat in the dense Kansar Dia Reserved Forest.
