Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday said that the state government was working to install 14 automatic traffic signals at different locations across the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The Chief Minister was responding to a query in the Assembly on the preparedness of the state government to adapt to the modernisation of the traffic system of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack under the Commissionerate Police.
The CM, who also holds the Home portfolio, in his written statement elaborated on the steps towards modernisation of the traffic system. The CM said, “49 important crossings of Bhubaneswar city and 14 important crossings of Cuttack city have been covered with automatic traffic signals. Steps are being taken for installation of additional such systems at nine important crossings in Bhubaneswar and five important crossings of Cuttack.”
Patnaik also said that CCTV-based city surveillance system had been established in Bhubaneswar which covers 23 traffic crossings while steps are being taken to establish the system at 38 traffic crossings of Cuttack.
Talking about the traffic control system equipment, he said, “Modern traffic control equipment have been provided to Commisionerate Police for better management which includes retro reflective double road barrier, single road barrier, traffic interceptor, body worn camera, vehicle dashboard camera and others.”
He also added, “To improve the traffic system in Police Commisionerate, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, the government have created four Traffic Police Stations at Cuttack, Phulnakara, Bhubaneswar and Chandrashekharpur.”
The CM provided the information after Pravat Ranjan Biswal, party MLA raised the issue for more information. Biswal had asked through a starred question about any proposal for modernisation of the traffic system at Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police and had sought information about the steps taken in this regard.
