14 held for Cuttack heist, huge booty recovered

Cuttack, July 31: Commissionerate Police Friday busted an inter-state robbery gang by arresting 14 of its members who struck at the Madhupatna residence of Samrat Cinema Hall managing director Jashobant Narayan Debta July 18 and fled with jewellery and cash.
Police commissioner RP Sharma said the gang comprises members from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The thieves were nabbed after police intercepted a vehicle along the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar national highway near Phulnakhara.
Police recovered  `1.78 lakh in cash, 215 grams of molten gold, 150 grams of gold jewellery and silver ornaments weighing four kilos. A Mahindra Bolero (OR02 BQ 2016), a pick-up truck (OD02 N 4818), 12 mobile phones and equipment used in the crime were also seized, the commissioner added.
The accused were identified as ringleader Suraj, Jeki Dewa, Raja, Shantia, Akash Gulu (all from Madhya Pradesh), Budha Singh (Uttar Pradesh), Satyanarayan Sahu of Khandapada in Nayagarh district, Ajay Kumar Nayak of Khurda, Jitendra Jena alias Jitu of Nayagarh, Gopinath Maharana of Nayagarh, Sudeepta Banerjee, Arjun Prusty (Puri), Mahendra Sahu and Manoj Sahu of Cuttack.
The miscreants are history-sheeters with many cases pending against them at police stations in several districts across the state.
