Bhubaneswar: Fire safety systems at various commercial, government and private establishments across the state are being inspected as part of government efforts to strengthen fire safety measures and protect lives and property.
Under the ‘Safe Odisha, Developed Odisha’ campaign launched by the Odisha Fire and Emergency Services September 15, senior fire service officials and special teams have conducted fire safety audits at 1,431 establishments in the state. The highest number of inspections (547) were carried out under the Central Range in Kataka, followed by 454 under the Southern Range in Brahmapur and 427 under the Northern Range in Sambalpur.
A special team led by Chief Fire Officer Debendra Kumar Swain also audited three establishments. According to officials, 119 establishments were inspected September 15, 90 September 16, 90 September 17, 155 September 18, 134 September 19, 91 September 20, 159 September 21, 126 September 22, 115 September 23, 115 September 24, 101 September 25 and 136 establishments were audited September 26.
During the audits, officials checked fire safety certificates, availability of required firefighting and safety equipment, unobstructed emergency exits and doors, functioning of fire prevention systems and arrangements for safe evacuation during emergencies. Employees of the establishments are also being provided with necessary fire safety awareness and training. The department said notices are being issued to establishments found violating fire safety regulations during inspections.
