Daringbadi: Even as the winter is approaching in Daringbadi, considered to be the Kashmir of Orissa, a 150-member trekkers’ group from West Bengal arrived here in Kandhamal district to extend their thrill-based activities in the state.
Apart from mountaineering and trekking in forests, the team members would promote national integration during their five-day-long programme here that started Sunday.
The team aims to promote environment studies and health-related awareness, camp leader Debaprada Ghosh of Kolkata Trekkers’ Youth Club informed.
The club members have put up tents in a field near Hill View Park in Daringbadi and started their adventure Sunday morning, club’s secretary Malay Roy said.
The five-day camp includes trekking of huge hills in the area and is officially registered by the West Bengal government, Malay Roy added.
For this, the 150-member team was divided into four groups. The camp began with trekking of a hill near the Hill View Park managed by the forest and environment department.
Being the first of its kind in the district, locals seemed excited to witness the programme. On the other hand, a huge number of tourists have also extended their stay to enjoy the programme, in-charge of Hill View Park Kailash Dandapat said.
Such programmes should be held regularly in Daringbadi to attract more tourist footfall in the district. This will place Daringbadi in the global map of a tourist destination, he added. PNN
