Bhubaneswar: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has placed Odisha’s Higher Education Department in a challenging position over non-compliance with faculty appointment norms and qualification standards across state-run BEd institutions.
The regulatory body has issued a second show-cause notice to 16 government BEd colleges for failing to submit comprehensive data regarding faculty credentials and recruitment details.
The NCTE cautioned that institutional recognition will be withdrawn under standard regulations if the required details are not submitted by September 29.
According to the directive issued September 14, the council noted that despite repeated notices issued to the state government and individual colleges, the requested documentation remains pending.
The NCTE had initially directed the HE department November 26, 2024, to submit a complete roster of working faculty.
Although an extension was granted upon the department’s request, the required details were not provided.
A second notice followed in February 2025, after which the department submitted data for only three BEd colleges.
A fresh reminder was issued in May, to which the department replied June 5, stating that top-priority steps were underway to fi ll vacant positions in line with NCTE guidelines.
Following an unfulfilled July notice demanding complete faculty portfolios, the NCTE issued this final deadline to all 16 institutions.
Colleges must submit proof of faculty qualifications, compliance with appointment regulations, and related verification records to avoid immediate withdrawal of affiliation.
