Bhubaneswar: The office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted collectors of flood-prone districts to be prepared for rescue and rehab measures in view of heavy rainfall situation.
In a communication to the collectors, the SRC apprised the districts facing heavy rainfall threat such as Khurda and Puri to keep the official machineries ready to tackle any issues arising out of the rain such as flood-like situations.
“The District Collectors under orange (be prepared)/ yellow (be updated) warning are requested to keep the administrative machinery fully prepared to meet any possible flood/ water-logging issue that may arise in the event of intense rainfall. All the districts are to operate round-the-clock and update the situation from time to time,” the order said.
According to the SRC office, enhanced rainfall was witnessed due to the influence of cyclonic circulation. The trend is likely to continue for the next few hours in some districts of the state. The Met department predicted heavy rain in Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur. These districts have been put under the orange warning category.
On the other hand some districts like Ganjam, Keonjhar, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Kendrapara among others have now been put under the yellow category where the district administration has been asked to be updated on the developing weather trends. Rains are also anticipated in these areas too.
The special bulletin till Wednesday afternoon on the weather updates claim that the cyclonic circulation over Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood areas which later shifted to southern India could be blamed for the rains. The bulletin said, “A trough in easterlies extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level runs from the above cyclonic circulation to Jharkhand across Telangana, south Chhattisgarh and interior Odisha. Under the influence of above systems enhanced rainfall activity is very likely to continue during next 48 hrs in some districts of Odisha.”
