Jajpur: Two youths were killed while two others sustained grievous injuries in a fatal road mishap that took place near Dhanapur Square under Panikoili police limits in Jajpur district late Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Chandan Mahalik, son of Premananda from Jhatiasahi village under Jajpur Road police limits and Debashis Nayak, son of Jayant of Kantara village under Korei police limits in the district.
According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred while four youths were returning to Jajpur Road at around 11.00pm by a car. Their vehicle skidded into a roadside pond after the youth driving the car lost control after a speedy large truck tried to overtake them.

The car got half-submerged in the pond with the youths inside it. Failing to come out of the vehicle, two of them died on the spot while two of them had a narrow escape, the eyewitness stated.
Some locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Jajpur Road.
On being informed, Panikoili police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident. Bodies of Chandan and Debashis were sent for post-mortem, an official informed.
