Digapahandi: Police detained two persons in connection with the kidnap and murder bid on a Biju Janata Dal leader and former sarpanch Bhagaban Badatya of Bamkei panchayat under this block in Ganjam district Tuesday.
The detainees were identified as Basant Badatya and Sudhir Kumar Sahu of Bamkei under K Nuagaon police limits.
Four persons abducted Bhagaban under gunpoint on a bike to Changudei jungle where they assaulted him and snatched Rs 1,500 from his wallet Monday. They threatened to kill him if he dares to report the incident to the police. Family members rescued Bhagaban and got him checked up by a doctor.
Later, police started an investigation and arrested two persons in this connection while two others have gone into hiding. The two accused will be arrested once their complicity in the crime is established during interrogation, K Nuagaon IIC Debashis Mohanty said. Two others have been identified and will be arrested soon, SDPO Prakash Chandra Jena said.
