Burla/Sambalpur, August 18: Two women were diagnosed with dengue in Sambalpur district, triggering panic among the locals. These cases have come to the notice of the health authorities in western Orissa just two days after a person died of the vector-borne disease at Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The women were identified as B Mishra of Sambalpur town and Truptimayee Panda of Burla town.They were admitted to Burla-based VSS Medical College and Hospital.
However, the medical has no special dengue ward to deal with such cases. Absence of such facility caused tension among other patients and local people. They demanded immediate provision of a special ward for dengue patients at the hospital.
Medical superintendent Sunamali Bag said a special ward for dengue patients will be opened on a temporary basis at the trauma care unit Wednesday. The treatment cost of the two dengue patients will be borne by the government, Bag added.
According to reports, Truprimayee had fever about eight days ago. As her condition grew critical, her blood sample was tested, which came out positive for the vector-borne disease.
Medical sources said the
condition of both the patients was stable.
The first case of dengue death this year was recorded at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Sunday. Ajay Kumar Nayak (35) of Bargarh was admitted to the hospital Friday. Earlier, he was diagnosed with dengue at Mumbai where he was employed. Nayak was admitted to the ICU where he breathed his last despite best efforts by doctors to save his life. He was also diagnosed with typhoid, said Dr Bhubananda Maharana, adding Elisa test will be conducted on the body.
