2 FIRs against Sundargarh SP

Sundargarh: Two complaints were lodged at Hemgir police station against Sundargarh SP Saumya Mishra.

Locals had vandalised an outpost July 4 following a road mishap. Police had then arrested 14 people. Two of the accused families had alleged police excesses on them. They had moved a court against the SP.

The latest case was booked following a petition moved by a woman at Sundargarh SDJM court August 5.

The first case was filed by Dillip Patnaik against the SP July 25 on charge of police excesses.

The woman, identified as Priya Dey of Kanika village, alleged that she was mercilessly attacked by the SP resulting in her miscarriage.

The plea stated that the SP forcefully entered Priya’s house July 4, 2019 with a police team. They had threatened to kill her husband Uttam Dey alias Gopi.

SP Saumya Mishra was also accused of threatening Priya if she did not tell whereabouts of Gopi. The SP even physically assaulted Priya on her abdomen, leading to her miscarriage.

Later, the SP went to Gopi’s fly ash brick factory and damaged five vehicles. The total damage is around Rs 4 lakh. On the next day Priya’s husband Gopi was taken to Sundargarh sadar police station and tortured mercilessly.

As the Hemgir police denied receiving her FIR, Priya filed a petition at Sundargarh SDJM court.

Hearing on the petition, the court directed the police station to register an FIR. A case was registered against SP Saumya Mishra at Hemgir police station.

Deputy SP Jyotshnamaye has been handed over the charge of investigation. The SP has strongly denied the allegations against her.
