2 injured as police lathicharge at Khurda collectorate

Khurda: In a pitched battle between the police and protesters of Tangi Janajagaran Mahamenta at the Khurda Collectors office Tuesday two persons were severely injured.

According to police sources, the police had to resort to lathicharge as about 1,000 protesters under the banner of Tangi Janajagaran Mahamenta staged a demonstration in front of the collector’s office to press for several demands and later barged into the premises and ransacked flower pots kept inside.

After the mob became violent police rushed to the spot and tried to disperse them. The situation took an ugly turn when the agitators clashed with the police force. Following which, they resorted to lathicharge in which two persons sustained injuries.

They were admitted in the district headquarter hospital and undergoing treatment.

The activists said that they were demanding immediate action on several isuues.

The stated that the state-level ‘Ama Gaon Ama Bikash’ scheme is not being implemented as per the guidelines set by the state government. This is damaging the self-respect of the representatives Tristariya Panchayat Parishad and the everyday problems of the people are also not being solved.

Moreover, the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana and the Biju Pakka Ghar schemes are not being executed properly. A large amount of money is being laundered by the officials.

The protesters also alleged that ‘chatua’ that is being sanctioned under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is of poor quality,however no investigation has been done regarding this matter. Anganwadi Centres were supposed to receive new toys, but, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) is buying toys of low quality.

The panchayat samiti meetings were supposed to be held once every two months. However, it has been 16 months and only two meetings have been organised till now. Moreover, specific committees regarding farming, education, health and environment have not been created yet. And no steps are being taken in formation of six new Panchayats in the block. They also alleged that a lot of irregularities are being found while issuing of ration cards.
