Bolangir/Subarnapur: Two minor brothers who were abducted by unidentified miscreants managed to escape in Bolangir district Wednesday.
The matter came out after the two children were spotted by the town police. The children were terrified and were trying to find a place to hide after the escape. The police found them near Vikram Chowk in Bolangir town and rescued them.
After pacifying the kids, the police learnt about the kidnap from them. The brothers said they were kidnapped by unknown persons from Nuapada in Subarnapur district.
The incident occurred while the two brothers had gone to the Gandhi Stadium in Sonepur in the early morning hours on Wednesday for jogging when someone threw a stone at his brother.
“As I looked back, a man suddenly came from behind and pressed a piece of cotton on my brother’s face while another man gagged me and put both of us inside a sack. Later, they took us in a Bolero jeep. After some hours, the kidnappers stopped the vehicle and went somewhere. Taking the opportunity, I managed to come out of the sack and pulled out my half-conscious brother. Finding no one around, we ran away from the place,” he said.
On the basis of the information, police took them to a house near Sonepur where the two brothers were kept before being taken in the vehicle. However, police did not find anything inside the room except some photos of the gods and goddesses.
Efforts are on to trace the vehicle and track down the abductors, police said adding that the criminals blindfolded the kids, tied their limbs and were taking them to Bolangir in a vehicle. They somehow managed to escape when the miscreants got down half-way for something, leaving the two children alone in the vehicle.
As rumours of child trafficking and kidney, eye theft rackets are floating around on social media, the kidnap of the two children has sparked public concern.
The police have launched an investigation. The identities of the kidnappers and the reason for the kidnap are not known, the cops said.
Moreover, it is suspected that some people might have tried to sacrifice the two boys to appease the deities.
