Naktideula: In a shocking incident, two siblings of Ghosaramala village under this block in Sambalpur district drowned in a well while returning home after bathing in a river Tuesday.
They were identified as Bidusmita Swain (8) and Dibakar Swain (3), children of Sushama and Bibhuti Swain.
A brief stopover near the well and an attempt to bath again resulted in their death. Their youngest sibling 18-month-old Dambarudhar escaped death as the duo left him outside before entering the well, which had no guard wall.
Family members rushed the children to Redhakhole hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival. Redhakhole police registered a case in this connection and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
Police said the three siblings accompanied by their mother had gone for bath to nearby river Champali. Sushama after bathing asked the children to go home but she stayed back to finish her chores. While returning, Bidusmita and Dibakar noticed the well in an orchard and decided to have a bath again.
They left Dambarudhar outside and entered the well. Finding the baby alone in the orchard, two kendu leaf collectors – Kishori Sahu and Bimbadhar Majhi – went near the well. By then, the siblings had drowned, sources said. PNN
