2 youths axe their mother for pension money

Sundargarh: A 55-year-old widow was allegedly hacked to death by her two sons over her old-age allowance of Rs 400 at Baragada under Sadar police limits in Sundargarh district Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Tikeswari Kishan, mother of the accused duo Nabin Kishan, 30, and Bipin Kishan, 28.

According to reports, Tikeswari took upon the responsibility of the family after the death of her husband Yudhistir Kishan. Even as the elderly woman had two sons, they are habitual drunkards who often created scenes at home for money.

They wandered aimlessly and spent time drinking, it is alleged. They snatched their mother’s pension every month, say the locals.

Like every month, Tikeswari received her monthly allowances of Rs 400 and went home and kept it for herself. However, the two sons, as usual, returned home in an inebriated state and demanded money from her.

Tikeswari knew the duo would spend the money on liquor during Nuakhai festival. So, she refused to give them anything. This triggered a verbal fight.

Consequently, the agitated brothers allegedly thrashed the elderly woman. Still not satisfied, the two took an axe and hacked her to death in the house.

Hearing their shrieks, villagers reached the spot and overpowered the two brothers before they could escape.

On receipt of information, police arrived at the village and arrested the two accused. The body was seized and sent for autopsy. Investigation into the matter is underway, police said.

Notably, a man in an inebriated condition, hacked his wife Sumitra Kamila, 32, to death a couple of days back at Sahada in Balasore district when she refused to part with her money. The accused was identified as Ajay Kamila, 40.
