Kendrapara:Seven families were rendered homeless in a massive fire that reduced 20 houses to ashes at Koranda village under Rajkanika police limits in this district Sunday night. The fire started while the family members were asleep after dinner.
Valuables worth lakhs of rupees including household items, electronic gadgets, groceries and important documents were gutted in the fire. The exact cause of the fire was unclear, but electric short-circuit in a house was suspected.
Sparks erupted and smokes started billowing out of a house. In no time, the fire engulfed the neighbouring houses. Half of the houses were gutted by the time the villagers woke up from sleep and launched fire-fighting efforts.
Sets of furniture alongside three motor bikes were completely reduced to ashes. The fire was doused with the help of the Rajkanika fire brigade teams. eom
