20 injured, eight critical as bus rams into stationary truck in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: Twenty passengers were injured, eight seriously, when the bus they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck near Nekedaghar on National Highway-20 under Sadar Police limits in Keonjhar district late Thursday night.

Hearing the agonizing cries of the passengers, nearby villagers came to their rescue and rushed them to the district headquarters hospital here. The driver is among the eight seriously injured and is critical.

Recounting the mishap, some of the hospitalised passengers said the bus ‘Sri Ram’ plies between Barbil and Bhubaneswar every day. It was filled to capacity with most of the passengers scheduled to get down at Bhubaneswar.

Most of the passengers were fast asleep when the bus rammed into the truck. Commuters on the first few rows were the ones who suffered serious injuries due to the impact.

Eyewitnesses said that the bus was travelling at high speed when the accident occurred near Nekedaghar where the truck was parked. The collision was severe and the front portion of the bus was damaged completely.
