Puri: Three students of an engineering college drowned while taking bath near Jahania at Astarang in Puri district Sunday, police said.
Three other students were rescued from the sea by the locals.
The deceased have been identified as Amit Mohanty, Abinash Pradhan and Subhasoumya Senapati.
Police said the students of a Bhubaneswar-based private engineering college had gone for a picnic near the seashore at Jahania of Astarang in the morning.
Six of them had gone to sea for bathing when they were caught in a current. The local people could rescue three of them while as many number drowned, police said.
The injured students have been admitted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Fire Services personnel from Astarang launched an operation to trace the missing students.
