3 excise cops hurt during raids on bootleggers

Rupsa: Three constables of the excise department were injured when they were attacked by miscreants in Rupsa area of Balasore, Wednesday. The excise officials were returning after the arrest of two liquor traders when they faced attack.

Tension griped the area for hours following the incident. The officials injured were Sashikant Sahu, Mangal Singh and Minati Parida. The injured were admitted to the district headquarters hospital. An FIR was filed at the police station in this regard.

Reports said, acting on a tip-off, excise officials from Basta along with a special team of officials from Rupsa raided the area in the wee hours Wednesday.

They arrested liquor traders Pratap Behera of Barahampur and Sulochana Behera of Mirigimundi. The officials seized 32 litres of country liquor from them.

They were carrying the two in their van when over 15 youths attacked the van. They vandalised the van and snatched documents from officials and left them injured.
