3 of Moquim’s aides held over bomb hurling

Cuttack: Darghabazar police Friday claimed to have arrested three persons in connection with bomb hurling at a cloth store of former Congress leader Walid Patel near Tinikania Bagicha in the Silver City April 15.

The arrested have been identified as Chinmaya Ranjan Swain, 27, of Deulisahi, SK Guljar Ahmad, 35, of CDA Market area and SK Jiauddin, 40, of Darghabazar area. “Five mobiles and some SIM cards have been seized from the arrested. All the three persons are the aides of Congress leader Muhammad Moquim,” said city deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Akhilesvar Singh.

SK Guljar was earlier booked in 14 criminal cases at various police stations in the city while two criminal cases are pending against Swain, Singh added.

According to police, the three accused had threatened Patel over some issues April 14.

The accused had hurled a bomb at Patel’s cloth store April 15 and fled the spot, police said.

Darghabazar police had registered a case in this regard as per a complaint lodged by Patel. “The accused have confessed to the crime during interrogation,” said a police officer.

It is worth mentioning here that Patel left Congress a day after the bomb hurling incident.
