Rourkela, April 26: The bodies of a young tribal couple and their three-year-old son were found lying in a pool of blood at their house in a slum at Balughat here Sunday, police said.
Preliminary inquiries suggested unidentified assailants might have killed the three-member family with iron rod or similar blunt object, deputy superintendent of police Tushar Kant Jena said.
The deceased were identified as Milko Badaik (30), a mason, his wife Arati (28) and their son Adikunj (3), he said adding the family hailed from Jharkhand.
Sources said the bodies were spotted by the Arati’s father Laxminath Badaik when he visited her Balughat house at 9am Sunday. As he raised an alarm after finding the bodies in a pool of blood, neighbours rushed to the spot and informed police.
On being informed, superintendent of police Aniruddha Kumar Singh, DSP Jena and a scientific team reached the spot.
Investigation was in progress and Raghunathpali police seized an iron rod and the couple’s voter identity cards from the spot. ‘‘It seems, more than one person was involved in the crime,’’ the DSP said. In another incident at Rooptola, a kilometre away, a couple was brutally assaulted by unknown assailants Saturday night.
