3 orphan minor siblings left to fend for self

Sundargarh: Three orphan minor siblings of Banjikusum village under Bonai block in Sundargarh district have been left to fend for themselves since the death of their parents, thanks to the negligent attitude of the officials concerned as no government assistance has reached their way.

It’s been close to a month after the death of their parents, but no help has come their way.

With no option left option, the elder boy Santosh (17) has taken the responsibility of his younger siblings Jagannath (14) and Priyambada (9) on his own shoulders. He makes both ends meet by working in a shop in the locality.

According to sources, Jadumani Kishan and his wife Gura Kishan resided with their children Santosh, Jagannath and Priyambada in a thatched house at Banjikusum village in Badgogua panchayat under Bonai block.

The couple worked as daily wagers to the survival of the family. However, things took an ugly turn after Jadumani was affected of TB and got bed ridden. Since then, the family’s whole responsibility lay on the shoulders of Gura who worked as a daily wager and met the family expenses with the treatment expenses of her husband.

However, under stress, Gura had grown weak and suddenly died August 28. Unable to bear her death, Jadumani also died the very next day, leaving behind the three children in lurch.

The situation was so bad that Santosh had to work in a shop to feed his younger brother and sister. Santosh’s younger brother jagannath studies in Class IX and sister priyambada studies in Class V in the village school.

Till date, there is no toilet or electricity in their house. The final rites of their parents were completed with the help of their relatives and villagers. The financial assistance under Harischanda Yojana, which should have been provided to these three children just after the death of their parents, has not yet been provided to them.

The three siblings are now struggling to survive with no help from the administration. Meanwhile, when contacted, Badgogua panchayat, PEO, J Mishra assured of assistance to the orphan children.
