3 siblings kill elderly couple for rice

Keonjhar: Police Tuesday arrested three brothers in connection with the murder of an elderly couple at Khuntakata under Sadar police limits in Keonjhar district January 13.

Investigating police suspected the couple might have been killed by the brothers for a mere bag full of rice. The deceased couple was identified as Milu Nayak and Kasturi Pradhan.

A complaint was lodged in this regard after the bodies were recovered from a well in the forest. Based on the statement, police launched a probe and arrested the brothers.

During interrogation, the accused, three brothers, confessed to the crime for a sack of rice and Rs 1200.

The elderly couple was engaged to guard a stone crusher unit at Kasada. The three brothers, in a bid to loot, strayed into the crusher unit January 13 when they were intercepted by the elderly couple.

Anticipating the couple might expose their intentions, the three brothers allegedly hacked the two to death with an axe and dumped the bodies into a well.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC against the accused, the police said.
