3 youths duped of `20 lakh

Cuttack: The managing director of a private company in Jagatpur Industrial Estate has allegedly duped three youngsters of `20 lakh by promising to take them into partnership.
The duped youths—Rasmiranjan Parida, Ranjit Kumar Panda and Debendra Sahu—along with the members of a social outfit Monday lodged a complaint with the director general of police against the private firm, Milton Industrial Syndicate Limited.
They alleged the firm’s managing director, Pratap Chandra Mohanty, lured them into partnership of the company and demanded `20 lakh. The unemployed youths accepted the proposal and paid `20 lakh to Mohanty November 3, 2014.
The accused again demanded `25 lakh. However, the youth expressed doubt and inquired about him. They were shocked to find that Mohanty had duped many people using the same modus operandi and asked him to refund their money.
The accused agreed to refund the money in two instalments and even signed an agreement with the trio. However, Mohanty did not refund the money within the deadline.
“When we lodged a complaint with Jagatpur police, Mohanty agreed to refund the money and issued three cheques, but it bounced due to unavailability of cash,” the youths alleged.
They again complained to the police after which a case was registered. But the police are yet to arrest the accused. Meanwhile, the accused moved the High Court for bail but it was rejected July 13.
The youth have threatened to sit on strike in front of the DGP office if police fail to arrest the accused. DGP KB Singh said he has asked the DCP to arrest the accused soon.
