34 gold bars seized at BPIA

Bhubaneswar: More than 660 grams of gold in the form of 34 gold bars was seized from Biju Patnaik International Airport recently.
According to Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at BPIA, acting on spot intelligence customs officials intercepted a passenger from Ramanathapuram of Tamil Nadu who arrived here from Kuala Lumpur by AirAsia flight AK-31 November 13 night. After a search of his body and baggage, the officials found 34 gold bars of foreign origin.
Sources said, the gold bars were being smuggled to foreign countries. While 33 gold bars were in the form of screw drivers, one piece of rectangular yellow metal was seized from his rectum. The cost of gold bars weighing 661.53 gram was pegged at Rs 19,46,495.
