4 die, 4 critical in road accidents in Koraput district

Jeypore/ Laxmipur, April 1: As many as four persons including three of a family died while four were left critically injured in separate road accidents in Koraput district Wednesday.

In the first incident, three members of a family died in a road accident that took place at Airstrip Square of Teliguda on the national highway near Jeypore under Sadar police limits in Koraput district.  The deceased were identified as Subash Chandra Gantayat (47), his son Kanhucharan (16) and his brother-in-law Shesadeb Panigrahi (35) of Jagannath Mandir Sahi in Borigumma block.

They were travelling on a bike to attend a feast in Digapur village when it hit a truck parked at road side. All of them were critically hurt in the accident.

Locals rushed them to the sub-divisional hospital here. The trio succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. When alerted, police arrived at the hospital and started an investigation. The bodies were handed over to the family after
post-mortem.

In the second incident, a person died and six others sustained injuries after a pick-up van met with an accident late Tuesday night near electricity office under Laxmipur police limits. Four of the injured were in a critical condition, doctors said.

The deceased was identified as Gupta Muduli of Bandhikar village and the injured were Umuri Miniaka, Raju Meleka, Budra Miniaka, Sambaru Miniaka, Surendra Miniaka and Jadu Miniaka of Jholaguda village.

Gupta came under the wheels of the vehicle and died on the spot following the accident. The injured were taken to local community health centre in a 108-ambulance. Later, four of them were shifted to the district headquarters hospital as their condition worsened.
