Tigiria: Four persons including three farmers were killed, while another sustained critical injuries in separate incidents when lightning struck them in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Niranjan Behera (55) of Sampur village in Hatamal panchayat, Kabichandra Bal (55) of Bishnupur Mundiasahi (Balabhadrapur) in Hatamal panchayat and Sanjay Behera (34), son of Prabhakar Behera, in Ramchandi Sahi village of Bindhanimaa panchayat.
Paramananda Behera (50) of Sampur village sustained critical injuries when he was returning home with deceased Niranjan after their farm work. Niranjan died on the spot, while Kabichandra died on his farmland. Sanjay succumbed to the lightning strike when he was returning home from his farmland.
Tigiria police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem and registered a case in this connection. Paramananda was rescued and admitted to the Athagarh sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
Similarly, Dusmant Rout from Bathal village in agatsinghpur district was killed after lightning struck him while he was grazing his cattle in a field.
