Jajpur, April 7: Two women and as many minor children were allegedly burnt alive by family members in two separate cases at Devidwar in Jajpur town and in Padi village under Korei police limits in Jajpur district Monday night, police said Tuesday.
In the first incident, victims Jayanti Sahu (27), wife of grocer Anant Sahu, their seven-year-old differently-abled son Ashish Sahu and six-month-old daughter Sai Shradha Sahu were charred to death in the fire.
Police accompanied by tehsildar and fire personnel reached the spot and doused the fire before recovering the charred bodies from the room. Police detained Jayanti’s husband Ananta for questioning and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
The incident occurred when Ananta had gone out to attend a local feast. In the second incident, in-laws set ablaze Satyabhama Behera, wife of Sanatan Behera, in Padi village under Korei police limits for delivering four girls instead of son Tuesday.
Satyabhama’s father Jagabandhu Rout called it a murder and lodged a complaint in the police station. Police registered cases and started investigations.
