4 including cop killed in road mishaps

Jagatsinghpur/Dhenkikote: At least four persons including a cop were killed while another was left with serious injuries in two separate road mishaps at Jagatsinghpur and Keonjhar districts Tuesday.

In the first incident, a person was killed while another was critically injured after a bike crashed into a temple on the Cuttack- Machagaon road near Athanga area here early Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Bibekananda Das of Katesinghpur village. One Jyoti Ranjan Swain has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where his condition remains critical.

The incident occurred early in the morning when the two persons were returning home from Cuttack after appearing for their Railway exams. The bike crashed into the wall of Shani Temple in heavy fog, said sources.

In another incident, a police personnel was mowed down by a speeding truck near Rungta Khani Chhak under Bameri police limits in Keonjhar district this morning.

The deceased, identified as Bikash Pradhan, was on traffic duty at the junction.

According to sources, the mishap took place when Bikash was deployed at the busy junction to manage the traffic movement. A speeding truck, which was coming from the opposite direction, hit Bikash killing him on the spot.

Tension flared in the area as the locals demanded immediate compensation for the deceased cop’s bereaved family.

Meanwhile, two persons were killed in a head-on collision between a motorbike and a car at Nudurpada under Pandapada police limits in Keonjhar district.

According to sources, the incident occurred while the passengers in the car were on a pilgrimage trip to ‘Trupti Safari’. Meanwhile, they collided head-on with the bikers Uditnarayan Naik (24) and Ajay Kumar Bage (21).

The two fell on the road under the impact of the collision and were rushed to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital. However, doctors declared the two dead while undergoing treatment.

Pandapada sub-inspector Indramani Pandey reached the spot and seized the vehicles. The bodies were seized and sent for autopsy. A case was registered and further probe was on.
