Bhubaneswar, July 27: Eight players are leading the pack with three points each after the completion of the third round of the Ist Macaulay All India Fide Rating Chess Championship here, Wednesday. Among them are four Orissa players—Rakesh Kumar Nayak, Rajesh Nayak, Sanjeeban Nayak and Samanta Singh Priyabrata. Joining them at the top are Anirban Basu, Sawyan Baran De and Anurag Jaiswal from West Bengal and Kandari Sasidhar Kartheek from Andhra Pradesh.
In the third round, Rakesh outwitted statemate Hrushikesh Rath and Rajesh got the better of Santosh Raj Panda. In another match, Sanjeeban prevailed over Subhendu Kumar Patra and Samanta checkmated Pratyush Mohapatra.
Official appointed
All Orissa Chess Association (AOCA) treasurer Gobinda Chandra Mohapatra has been appointed by All India Chess Federation (AICF) Wednesday as the head of Indian delegates for the Commonwealth Chess Championships at Sri Lanka, July 30-August 7. Three players from Orissa-Vaibhav Mishra, Smaraki Mohanty and Anwesha Mishra are also participating in this tournament.
