Bhubaneswar, March 20:  Proposed wood-based cluster at Paradeep has generated sound interest among companies with 41 entrepreneurs showing interests to set up units in the upcoming cluster.

“41 entrepreneurs have so far expressed their interest for setting up imported wood-based industries at Paradeep,” a MSME department communiqué said.

Recently, a meeting had been held in the premises of Paradeep Port Trust in which chairman of PPT along with principal secretary of state Industries department were present to discuss the blueprint for the upcoming cluster.

As per the communication, the chairman of PPT informed that land would be allotted to industries on lease basis for 20-30 years at Rs 1.40 crore for acre through e-tender basis.

“Expenditure for land development and other infrastructure like road, power supply, water supply among others shall be borne by allottees,” it said.

Chairman of PPT also said the port trust is ready for import of timber and added that stocking facility is available within the port.

Given the high price of land, it was also decided that processing facility in 100 acres would be developed. “Since the land of PPT is very high, it is felt that viability of enterprises may be affected.  So, it was decided to develop the processing facility in 100 acres of land of IDCO outside the jurisdiction of PPT,” the communiqué said.

Notably, the upcoming wood-based units will use timber imported from South Africa, New Zealand and West Indie and will be developed on the lines of Kandla project in Gujarat.
