Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has reported significant vacancies across key administrative and police services in the state, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Odisha Administrative Service and other state cadre posts.
Replying to a question by Lanjigarh MLA Pradip Kumar Dishari in the Assembly, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the House about the sanctioned strength and existing vacancies in various services.
According to the Chief Minister, Odisha has a sanctioned strength of 248 IAS officers, out of which 42 posts are currently vacant. In the IPS cadre, 195 posts have been sanctioned, with 67 lying vacant. Similarly, in the Indian Forest Service (IFS), out of 141 sanctioned posts, 66 are vacant. The Chief Minister clarified that appointments to the IAS, IPS and IFS cadres are made by the Central Government.

In addition, the state government is taking appropriate steps to fill vacancies in state services, including the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), Odisha Police Service (OPS) and Odisha Forest Service (OFS). As per the data placed before the House, 2,248 posts have been sanctioned in OAS, with 330 vacancies reported. In the OPS cadre, 852 posts are sanctioned, with 147 vacancies reported.
The Chief Minister also revealed that 27 IAS officers, 28 IPS officers and seven IFS officers from Odisha are currently on central deputation outside the state. The government assured that necessary steps are being taken, particularly for state cadre services, to address the gaps and strengthen administrative functioning across districts.
