43K people died in road mishaps over last 10 years

 Bhubaneswar:  More than 43,000 people died of road accidents and more than Rs 483 crore has been collected as fines from people due to violation of the Motor Vehicle Act over last 10 years. That apart 83,000 driving licenses have been cancelled, informed transport and commerce minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu in the Assembly Friday while replying to the question of MLA Dilip Ray Friday.

Minister Sahu said that on an average 12 people are killed every day in road accidents in the state. The minister, in a written reply, said during 2008-2018, a total of 43,312 people died and 61,884 seriously injured in road accidents.

The minister said as many as 61,884 persons were critical in several road mishaps from 2008 to 1018 in the State. “The transport authorities have collected a fine of more than Rs 1.5 crore for driving without license and more than Rs 2 crore for reckless driving,” he added.
