Bhubaneswar: Sahid Nagar police Friday arrested five persons for allegedly burning four shanties at a slum near the railway over-bridge in Satsang Vihar area here.
The police identified the miscreants as Bikash Rai, Sheik Murrad, Ajay Muruk, Prakash Swain and Om Prakash Panda.
The police said Panda had an argument with two women staying in one of the thatched houses in the slum and he also tried to snatch a mobile phone from them.
“The two women then thrashed Panda after which a few locals came to his rescue. They took law into their own hands and set afire at least four thatched houses in the slum. A complaint against them was lodged by a woman staying in the slum,” Sahid Nagar police station inspector-in-charge Deepak Kumar Mishra told Orissa POST.
Police sources said several sex workers are staying at the slum in Satsang Vihar area. Earlier, quick action team (QAT) of the Commissionerate Police and Sahid Nagar police January 5 had busted a sex racket near the railway over-bridge and arrested its kingpin and three customers.
The cops had also rescued at least 10 women, who are between 16 and 45 years of age, from the spot. PNN
