5 juveniles nabbed for bike lifting

Cuttack, August 22: Police nabbed five juveniles involved in stealing motorcycles and seized eight stolen bikes from them Sunday night.
All the accused are aged between 16 and 17 years. They used to keep the stolen motorcycles in Bhuban area of Dhenkanal district before selling them to perspective buyers, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sanjeev Arora said.
Arora said two of the accused were nabbed when they were trying to steal the bike of Rakesh Kumar Das of Gandarpur area. After interrogating the two, police learnt about their accomplices.
Subsequently, a team led assistant commissioner of police (zone 1) Trinath Mishra and Chauliaganj inspector-in-charge carried out raids in Dhenkanal and Angul and nabbed the other three accused.
Police said the gang has 10 to 12 members and all are juvenile. They have been stealing bikes since 2015. The gang members steal 10 to 15 bikes a month. While Cuttack, Angul and Dhenkanal are their major areas of operation, they also used to strike in new areas every month. Moreover, they used to choose rural areas to sell the stolen bikes, police added.
“Some other members of the gang managed to flee during the raids. More motorcycles will be recovered after the other members of the gang will be nabbed. Efforts are on to nab them soon, said Arora. The accused were sent to a juvenile home Monday, he added.
