Nabarangpur/Papadahandi, March 28: Five persons were killed and 35 others injured after a passenger bus skidded and overturned near Katiaguda under Papadahandi block of Nabarangpur district Saturday morning. The bus was proceeding from Badini of Jharigaon block to Nabarangpur.
While two passengers died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment in the district headquarters hospital at Koraput and another breathed her last on her way to hospital.
The deceased were identified as conductor Jhimari Harijan and four passengers Mungai Pujari, Rupai Majhi, Baishakhu Bindhani and Makaranda Gouda.
Thirty-five persons who were injured in the incident were admitted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital. Some of them were later shifted to Koraput district headquarters hospital. The administration, meanwhile, announced a relief of Rs 2,000 to family of each deceased person under Harischandra Yojana and Rs 5,000 more from Red Cross fund.
